Hi folks, here is an update on where to go if you are taking your holidays in Dublin and you fancy some Old time/bluegrass vibes whether to get your axe out and join in or just to have a pint and a listen. They are both free all welcome type places and they are both in pubs so there's plenty of the black stuff (Guinness).

1. Every Friday at 9.30pm in Rosie O'Grady's Pub in Harolds Cross, Dublin 6 (Slow jam from 8.30 - 9.30pm)
This one is mainly bluegrass and every week there is usually some new faces from distant shores such as the States or Finland etc.

2. Every Saturday at 4.30pm - 7.00pm in The Cobblestone Pub in Smithfield, Central Dublin.
This one is lead by 3 fine musicians from the Rough Deal String Band who play a lot of old-timey style numbers and bluegrass numbers, the jam is open to new people but is definatley held together by the band members (In a nice way)

The Cobblestone Pub is worth checking out on nearly any given night with real live trad sessions in the true Irish style. Unlike some of the tourist pubs with musicians playing up to 12 hour shifts every week and understandably being a little frazzled by it and not necassarily looking like they are enjoying it!

3. Trad Sessions, Where do you begin there are so many all over town? but you could check out O'Donoghues on Baggott Street, Dublin 2 (Tim O'brien popped in for jam on his last visit) from there just ask!! If you are really keen on playing/hearing some stonking trad music then you really should head to the west coast of the country where there are some truly outstanding musicians playing in the pubs and it's generally easy to find out where the hot guys are playing by just asking the locals.

Okay that's it before I sound too much like I'm writting for lonely planet. To all who make it to our Emerald shores I hope you have great Craic http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
