first the nonmando review for those interested.
was quite worried at first. they opened with uncle john's and the vocals were all off- coming in at the wrong times, bad harmonies, then broke into something called "the dolphin" beyond uninteresting choice- just not a great song,
but then they did a killer "senor", before an instrument change for one song (btw- see www.phillesh.net for the rest of the set list and the 2nd set list- greaaat choices, and phenomenal from senor on vocally, instrumentally-nice to see robinson break out the harp on a few tunes, etc...)
barry sless went from guitar to the steel pedal, and larry cambell put down his electric guitar and picked up a mando, and they did a kinda country-western hyped up version of long black veil- it was great. larry kept some decent rythm and even did a short and not terribly inventive but well done break. it was fun to see the little 8 string axe come out. couldn't tell what it was (brand) from where we were sitting.
peace,
