My Lloyd LaPlant #106 is having fret work done. This is #7 built by Don LaPlant that I get to use while mine has the work done. As the saying goes "Like father like son." Dons' mandos have the same tone and workmanship as his dads.

Very nice... I love that semi-gloss (or is it satin) finish!

It is a marine varnish that has a brushed or rubbed effect according to the label on the bottle.

Yeah, but is it bluegrass?

G. Fisher

Yes, it is a great bluegrass mando. Nice woody tone and good chop.

Beautiful mandolins! The Orrico tailpiece really adds a classy touch to the appearance of these instruments. I'm sure the weight (and added mass) of this tailpiece adds some character to the tone, as well.

Hey Greg - you gonna be at Wintergrass this year? How's the 2-pointer doing?

G. Fisher
Dec-01-2005, 2:24pm
Yes, I'll be there. The Dean 2-point has opened up nicely.

Hey Greg,

Did you get your Henderson F5 yet?

Nice! #I have Don LaPlant's #5 - very similar, including 1-piece back, except that my headstock has fern inlay and name in abalone, which looks very cool. #Bill (Lloyd's other son) is making some nice instruments too.

Hey Russ,

No Henderson yet hopefully this winter. Wayne said mine is first in line when he starts mandolins again.
