Im a Ricky Skaggs fan myself. I guess being multi- talented you can see him on guitar, mando or fiddle. Dont think I ever saw him on the bass though.

Skaggs, it seems to me, is straying back to mainstream type material, instead of the straight-ahead bluegrass he was playing when he returned to bluegrass. If it's a traditional type bluegrass tune, Skaggs will play mandolin. If it's a hopped up modern type tune, Andy Leftwich, who is a very fine mandolinist in addition to being a heckuva fiddle player, will play mandolin. Listen to the latest album. Ricky plays mandolin only on a handful of tunes (the three instrumentals he wrote and maybe one or two others, though he did play mandocaster on one cut), but all the other mandolin chores go to Leftwich.

Ricky can afford it! - Incidently, few years ago - at a RS show - I saw Bobby Hicks "switch-off" to banjo. He got-r-done..., too!! - (Mr. Hicks - the ol' road warrior!!). http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Man, I remember watching Skaggs burn it up on a purple Tele one night....

Just killer tone and technique...

Also, Darrin Vincent plays mandolin (Weber Fern) with Ricky, as well as guitar (Weber Yellowstone; new).

I think he only plays mandolin with his band. I always see him playing guitar when he makes apprences on shows and other bands.

Oh no, I've seen Andy play a mando at a few gigs when Ricky picked up the guitar and did one those religious tunes. A pretty talented bunch of musicians and also Mills is not bad at fingerpicking a guitar either.

Don't forget, Ricky can also play Clawhammer style b*&!o. He did a tune on the Three Pickers with Earl and Doc.

That Weber Yellowstone archtop Darrin plays looks AMAZING! I couldn't take my eyes off that thing when I saw them the other night. Incredible looking instrument.

He only played mando on 1 or 2 tunes, but sounded very good.

I think it came from all of those years of playing with Django!
