RHYTHM MANDOLIN BOOT CAMP (http://www.ext.vt.edu/resources/4h/northern/adult.html#rhythmbootcamp)

This program, designed for intermediate and advanced players, will occur over a solid weekend with at least 15 solid hours of instruction and feature:
#a.. "The Basic Principles of Groove"
#b.. Blues guitar, piano and organ riffs (for mando) and grooves
#c.. Funk voicings, strums, riffs
#d.. Walking 3-note Chords and Walking Doublestops (swing, r&b)
#e.. Chuck Berry style Rock & Roll Shuffle (and variations)
#f.. Rhythm guitar type strums (rock n roll derived)
#g.. Bass lines and harmonized bass lines
#h.. Extended and altered chords; chord substitution
#i.. Call & response, stop time
#j.. Right hand techniques, pick+fingers, muting.....
#k.. Pedal tones, drones for Celtic backup and/or "heavy metal"
#l.. Celtic style backup (lots of arpeggios and "implied melody")
#m.. Ideas/techinques borrowed from Cajun second fiddling
#n.. Intro to "Clawhammer mando" (emulates old-time frailing banjo)
#o.. And of course, some ideas on the "chop"
Some suggested advance listening; these tunes illustrate many of the techniques/ideas listed above. Having a refreshed familiarity with these grooves will help to speed up the pace and the amount of material which can be covered. For those undecided about doing the boot camp, this may provide a better idea of what you'd be getting yourself into.
