I was watching the Last Waltz yesterday and during one song, Robbie is playing a very cool looking Gibson electric mando/guitar double neck. From the headstock script, it looked like late 50s/60s? But he only played the guitar! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I need to look at that video again, I don't remember that instrument. I do remember the part where Clapton's guitar strap comes undone during a good solo and messes him up http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
i'll need to bust out the video (one of my favs) as i don't recall it. but what a great film! some of you folks (spruce???) must've been there-lucky!.

I noticed that too but I was wondering if it was a mandola scale. It's shown during "The Weight". It's one of my favorites films too.

Yeah, that's a Gibson double-necker from Norm's Rare Guitars in LA....
It's in one of the filmed segments, and not from the concert at Winterland...

Well, it wasn't all good. They did have to sit through the Neil Diamond material. "Come Dry Your Eyes." Feh. That Dixie was pretty hot, though...

That performance of The Weight is great, bt it is strange to see how overdubed the intro is as Robbie isn't playing at all what you can hear. I've heard that much of the music in the film and recordings were recut for quality issues. Still, it is amazing stuff.

At the time the thrill was not knowing who was there to sit in, or who would come on next.......it just kept going &
of course it turns out the lineup of friends of The Band playing was pretty amazing. Ahhhh the good ol days, Winterland
was home of many fine shows in the post Fillmore days. At the time I thought the missing link was Jerry Garcia. he played
some parallel tunes, with the Band, in his JGB.

Read Levon Helm's "This Wheels on Fire" for the real lowdown on that film....Robbie 's straining vocals into his shut off mike...speaking of Scorcese & the boys, if you haven't seen "No Direction Home" yet, do yourself a favour and see it. It is fantastic...

At least he could write songs! Obviously there's a lot of bad blood between the members, but I always have had more respect for the songwriter(s) in bands.

I've seen the film so much that I look for mismatching between the soundtrack and the video. Kind of a latter day drinking game. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Scorsese is a fast talker to begin with, but he talks so fast in the film that I'd be willing to bet he was on coke!
Love "The Weight" with the Staples and "Evangeline" with Emmy Lou. That big Gibson Style O harp guitar is really just a prop. Never heard one of those that had any tone.
