I discovered a crack in the fingerboard of my 1 yr. old Gibson A9. Between the 12th and 15th frets. Has anyone else run into this problem with Gibson or any other mandos? I use a humidifier and oil the board regularly, and it was not dropped or otherwise damaged. I've had several other mandos, guitars, dulcimers, and have never had this happen.

I guess from my lack of replies that this must not be a very common problem. Hmmmmm----maybe it's the fault of the ozone layer.

It's common in older instruments. As a repairmen I see fingerboard cracks pretty often in ebony boards that are flat sawn. Flat sawn ebony is not very stable and the movement resulting from seasonal weather changes causes cracks. They usually repair to look and function just fine.
