Primo mando player Andy Statman is coming to Pittsburgh PA (which is northern Appalachia) for a concert Sat. nite (11-19-05 8 pm) sponsored by Calliopehouse.org , the Pittsburgh Folk Music Society. We are trying to put together enough folks for him to do a workshop Sunday morning. Please let me know if you are interested.... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

When I first started learning mandolin a buddy gave me an instruction book by Andy. It's from 1978. I'm not sure if it is him on the cover but the photos in the book really took me back. It was pretty much a gas and far out.

Doug, I have the same book, I bought it when I acquired my first mandolin. I've since revisited it lately as Andy has some great variations to the standard fiddle/bluegrass tunes inside the pages. I'm pretty sure that's not Andy on the cover but there are some pics of him inside (w/ his signature snakehead) as well as other classic pics from the Phil. Folk Fest from the '70's. I think there is an updated version w/ cd but I'm not sure if the tunes/pics are the same.

Here's the current book, not sure if anything has changed. The pictures are old, so it sounds like they might be the same.
