I meant to post some of these photos before IBMA but I didn't have the time. I was glad to hear from other builders that I wasn't the only one working down to the wire.
This F-5 has a german top and a one piece sugar maple back. It has ebony appointments and an oil varnish finish.

This next mandolin is a prototype two point that I spoke of briefly in an earlier post. It is the same L&H pattern, but increased about 4%. This new larger pattern makes the two point about the same size as my F and A-5. I'm very happy with it..

This last mandolin is a good example of some of my custom work. It was made for a schoolteacher in WA. that wanted to have a mandolin that could also be used as a tool in the classroom. She wanted to have a red-eyed tree frog motif. We went back and forth with pictures and drawings, and finally settled on this.
This mandolin has a german spruce top and red maple back and neck. The sides are more of that flat sawn crazy maple from Bruce Harvey.

Great work! It was so nice to meet you in Nashville and get to see your mandos in person.
The butterfly on the headstock of that custom is just awesome. Also love the 2 pts.

Neil - these instruments are breathtaking! #Your two-point could quickly become a new industry standard.
Can you tell us about the "floating" type of tailpiece you're using on these mandolins? Is there a sonic reason for these or is it just asthetics?

Neil, Good to see you last week at The Compton/Long show. Sorry we couldn't hang around on Thursday and see the new ones. Other than the one piece back,which I love,that new F5 looks my #35 which is getting better every day.
They are all gorgeous instruments. I'll give you $150 for the blonde with the fancy inlay.

Thanks alot everyone for all of your comments. It was nice to meet and see some of you again down at IBMA. I get a kick out of meeting people that I have been reading their posts for years and finally get to match a face with their name.
Mandopete. I use the floating tailpiece predominantly for aesthetic reasons, however I have noticed their ability to slightly warm up an instruments voice as well as increase sustain and bring out more overtones. I also like the fact the the tailpiece is pulled into place by the string tension. This design does not exert extra downward pressure on the instruments top like some of the cast designs do.

I'm thinking that teacher's class offerings include "Principles and Practices in M.A.S. 101".
