I just got done trying to play that, well, at least thats what it was supposed to be. It was enough to make me start drinking!! You guys are right as far as this being fun. I haven't stopped laughing about how bad I suck since I got my mandolin. Now I am off to kill the Irish Washerwoman. Have a good weekend everyone.

Chrissy,

Just remember that with enought whiskey before breakfast almost anything is possible!

"Whiskey Before Breakfast" is now invariably my warmup tune. I struggled that one more than any other when I started out, and now every time I play it I get a nice little sense of victory.

Someone once asked my Aunt Viola if she made breakfast for my uncle. She answered "Bruce don't need me to get up and pour him a shot of whiskey for breakfast!"

That was Uncle Bruce's breakfast too. Maybe he inspired the song.

I prefer to wait till the sun goes down these days.
Have you heard Mike Cross's lyrics to this tune? They're great.

I like Irish Washer Woman. Pick it Down-Up-Down Down-Up_Down.

Cute story glen.

I never knew there were words to that song Blep. Can you sing it for us? Hum a few bars and we'll all jump in ok? Thanks.

You guys have breakfast after your whiskey?
Wimps.

Oh yeah, 4 biscuits and gravy (and a lot of gravy) , a big pile of hash browns, 6 thick slices of country bacon, one homemade 1/2 pound sausage patty of the local butchered hog, 4 over easy eggs (yum, can I have some duck or goose eggs?). OK, a big 8 ounce ham or beef steak along side would be ok.

Yep, I'll have enough room for a few shots after breakfast.

Now what are we drinking for lunch?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

If you live in a dry county, just call the tune "Spirits of the Morning."

Chrissy:

WHISKEY FOR BREAKFAST - Mike Cross

Early one morning 'fore the sun could shine
I was walkin' down the street, not feelin' so fine.
I saw two old men with a bottle between' em
And this is the song that I heard them singin':

cho: Lord preserve us and protect us
We been drinkin' whiskey for breakfast!

I passed by the steps where they were sittin'
And I couldn't believe how drunk they were gettin'
I said "Old men you been drinkin' long?"
They said,"Long enough to be singin' this song"

cho: Lord preserve us and protect us
We been drinkin' whiskey for breakfast!

They handed me a bottle, said, "Take a little sip"
And it felt so good that I just couldn't quit
So I took a little more and before too long
There were three of us sittin' there singin' this song:

cho: Lord preserve us and protect us
We been drinkin' whiskey for breakfast!

One by one everybody in town
Heard our ruckus and they all came down.
Pretty soon all the streets were ringin'
With the sound of the whole town laughin' and singin':

cho: Lord preserve us and protect us
We been drinkin' whiskey for breakfast!
************************************************** ******************

The chorus is sung to the first half of the B part and
the
second half is played instrumentally. You really have to hear the song sung to fit the words properly.

I seem to recall the words are on the mp3 listed on this page:

Haven't listened to it for a while though, so I could be wrong (and I can't check on this computer). I hope it's of some use anyway!
