I'm gettin' more gigs on the banjer than the mando lately. And I'm the mandolin player in our band.

Fear not, my son. You need not go to confession unless it involves a b*njo.

Howard, go directly to the Bluegrass forum and stay there until you're told you can come out. And no dessert.

Isn't that one of the seves deadly sins?

The way I play my mandolin it's a sin not to play the guitar
all the time.

I just bought a tenor guitar that I will tune like an OM. Nothing wrong with a little variety. I hope to learn to bow an instrument someday.

I have sinned., I played guitar tonight.

Guitar? What's a guitar?

Oh Yes I remember....

...I just so happen to have two of those. As a matter of fact they are downstairs in my hobby room collecting dust http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

if playing guitar is a sin, then how bad is it to play guitar AND steel at the same time?

It'd a bad omen. How many strings does a guitar have?..six. How many tuners?...six. and how many pegs in the bridge?.. that's right 666! The banjo just puts you in purgatory...where most banjer players end up in jams. But the gitfiddle comes from the Divil. How many mando players ever OD'ed? or got kilt in plane crashes? See... Toll yas.

It doesn't seem to be an issue for Tim O'Brien or Mike Marshall or Sam Bush or any number of other mostly mandolin-playing, monster musicians to pick up the guitar now and then. As long as it doesn't get out of hand . . . http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I attended a Sam Bush workshop a while back and he made the remark that "all mandolin players think they can play the guitar," so I suppose I suppose we all fall from grace at times.

Nothing wrong with playing the guitar. #It's kind of a self-sacrifice. Some poor soul has to play backup while we mandolinists get all the glory playing lead! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Playing the steel is an act of such great virtue that it makes up for a multitude of sins. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Is it a sin if a mandolin player occasionally chooses to play bass instead?

Kinda fun making the BOOM instead of the CHICK when providing the rhythm - and W A Y more risky! 'cuz the BOOM comes BEFORE the CHICK!
