Beautiful hand-rubbed burst (the photo doesn't do it real justice), ebony pickguard, Adirondack spruce top, varnish finish.

Wow! That is one beautiful mandolin! Congrats! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I REALLY like the handrubbed bursts - they just have that vintage vibe. Plus the wood grain isn't hidden, even on the darker-colored edges. Excellent color choice on yours.

Nice trussrod cover too - makes it a true custom. How's she sound?

Thanks for the compliments. Peter Sawchyn calls that color "cordovan burst". It sounds really good, and plays easily. It's not the loudest mando I've played, but it still has good volume, and the ones that were louder didn't have as sweet a tone. I'm sure it will get even better with time. I own 2 Sawchyn mandos, and I feel very fortunate to have them. I'm sure they will both be lifetime instruments for me.

I have a pair of boots that I polish with cordovan polish - same color. Also my favorite boots! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Lovely. I take it this is the S-5 you use on MandoZine. Sounds nice, too: http://www.mandozine.com/recordings/Mp3/MandoFanfare.mp3

On Mandolin Fanfare I actually played both my Sawchyn S-5 and Sawchyn A-2, and I recorded each one twice to make it sound like a larger ensemble, so it's a little difficult to pick out the S-5's sound. But if you listen closely for the harmony part in the far right channel you might pick it out. On June Apple I used the S-5 for both parts.
