Here are some photos of the mandolin I bought at IBMA and a few of the people who enjoyed playing it.

First, the builder Fletcher Brock

Bryce Milano, who I'm guessing really liked it based on the number of times I saw him playing it at Fletcher's booth

EastmanGordon, who I believe wanted it as much as I did (I got there first because I didn't need to consult with anyone else regarding the purchase.) Gordon taught me the intro to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on it Sunday a.m. about 4:00...

And one of my favorite photos, supplied by Bruce (Spruce) of a before shot of the pickguard. #Per Bruce,

the pickguard came out of some flooring I picked up in Portland that came out of an old house built in 1888

Fletcher has had that instrument for quite some time now...
I don't think it's been for sale until IBMA...

Here's someone else checking it out at Wintergrass '03...

Didn't catch his name, but liked the way the color of the scarf looked next to the octave, so I took a pic... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

According to the label, the mando isn't that old. I think it would have to be Wintergrass this year, as I believe it was built 11/04.

Great photo!

If it's the instrument I think it is, I've played it and it's a beautiful thing. The craftsmanship is incredible, but I am a sucker for a well done blonde instrument.

I played it at Wintergrass 2005, and at that point was ready to do just about anything for it, but Fletcher said it wasn't for sale (probably for the best, as I had no money).
That is a magical instrument, me and Jesse Jones, the mandolin player from String Helix (one of the bands that was there) traded off on Fletcher's mandolin and octave pair (he had a matching a-style mando too) and jammed for at least an hour there.

I wonder if anybody gave old Pete a hard time about the color coordinating?

Yes, Fletcher builds a mean octave mandolin! Here's Ben Winship playing one of Fletcher's beauties...

That instrument is giving me a severe case of envy. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Can anyone identify the tailpiece in the lower left corner of the very first picture?

I played that OM at Wintergrass last year (right after the guy in the funny scarf) and was blown away. Congrats, it sure has some built in mojo with all the mando love that has been laid on it in the last year.

Ron,

I think that tailpiece might be this

Selmer jazz tailpiece (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Acoustic_guitar_tailpieces.html)

I know that's a tenor he built for Bryce for Django style.

I think you're right. A couple of the posts must be double strung.

Actually that's only a 4 string.

Congrats, that is a nice instrument. I've played it a few times.

For my money, Fletcher had the nicest mandos I played at IBMA. Good guy as well.:)

Pete,

Sorry I missed you at IBMA. I met a lot of good people from the cafe, but guess I missed a lot, too.

Met a lot of nice mandos I would have liked to have taken home, too, just couldn't pass up this one!
