I changed strings the first time the other day and guess what!!! The bridge just jumped off and fell to the floor!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

After much internal debate and microscopically examining the body for even a trace of where it might have been placed, I bravely closed my eyes and put it on hoping that againt staggering odds I might have chosen that exact place, but alas & alack I have not.

Can any one tell me how to determine the correct place for the bridge?

PS. Yes Yes I know between the strings and the body http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

There's a description on how to put your bridge in the right spot in the discussion on restring your mando at that site.

Thanks Jaded,

I have that bookmarked now and am giving it a try.

Another question though comes along. One things I have noticed is that as I move up the fretboard, the notes get progressively sharper. Is that a result of the placement of the bridge? is that normal? Does the bridge height affect this also?

Any answers would be greatly appreciate.

Sharped notes up the fretboard indicate that your bridge isn't adjusted perfectly yet. It's too close to the fretboard( on that particular sting, anyway). Flatted notes mean the bridge is too far from the fretboard. Good observation, though. Checking up the neck for correct tone is a near bulletproof way to determine if the bridge is positioned properly. And I can't think of any way that the bridge height would cause your problem unless you're using a milk crate or something else you could roll a bowling ball under. Good luck.

Thanks reckless, that helps a ton to know I am on the right track. It is driving me nuts when I play with someone else who is in tune

No milch crates but ya get what ya pay fur!
