Just recieved a new Beanblossom Mandolin 3 days ago it has one bad fret between the 6th & 7th bar will not play G# All I get is a thuddy sound. Mandolin has a 10 year warranty. Is this much of a problem to replace just one fret ? thank you Ken http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Since this is brand new, you probably don't want to work on it a bunch. But the problem may be just a fret lifting out of the slot, i which case you can tap it back into place with a light hammer, with the fret protected by a small block of wood (strings removed or loosened enough to get out of the way). That kind of fret loosening happens a lot during the winter heating season, when humidities indoors drop very low. If it's something else, I'd send it back for repair. If that fret sound OK on the treble strings but gets bad on the D and G strings, your chances are pretty good that a you can tap it back into place, as it was probably not shipped with a high fret.
