Heads up on a very cool swing album by the Gerry Beaudoin Trio. Bandleader, composer, and guitarist Beaudoin invites some high profile guests in addition to the East coast trio core, including our very own David Grisman (7 of the 12 tunes). "Swing Cafe" is actually a remix of a couple albums (now unavailable) previously released, but remixed & mastered, worth taking a spin in your CD player.

It's a great aural laboratory on how a well-played mandolin can fit #seamlessly in the "traditional" string band jazz ensemble.

If you want to know more, my two cents worth: Swing Cafe Review (http://jazzmando.com/spotlight_swing_cafe.shtml)

Do the do a *samba* rendition of St. Thomas?
I always thought of that as a calypso song.

Sounds like a Calypso melody on top of a stylized samba beat.

Pretty, though.

That is St. Thomas by Sonny Rollins..check out Sonny blowin' on it......Saxophone Colossus, originally on Prestige, recorded in 1956.
Dix Bruce did a mando version, tab & notation, in the old Mandolin World News. As I recall his band with Bob Alekno, Back Up & Push,
did a nice cover of it. I should relearn it, used to be under my fingers....but long gone.
