Jethro's F-5 (http://www.gruhn.com/features/jethro/MF6694.html)
I always think of Jethro with his two point red A-5.
This f-5 would be really fabulous to own but,.... I can only dream! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

If that thing could only talk! #Whoever buys it will certainly get a mando will "all the notes activated"! #It would be neat if Gruhn added a discography to the listing.
Lets see; kids college / mandolin / kids college / mandolin... #

Hey windflite! - funny you should use that "term" -"If that thing could only..." - THAT was my first thought when I saw THAT mandolin pic!! - What "character" that mando carries! - Yup!..., if only... Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That's more than double the price if it were a regular stock '67 F5. Jethro actually had several stock F5s including some factory electric F5s. He was an endorser of the Gibson mandolins and I doubt he paid for any of them.
There are several album covers with him holding stock F5s but I've not seen one with this one. There is no argument this was not his favorite one. Still nice piece of mando history and worthy of being in a collection.

You're right. I was going through a Jethro-worship phase, since i'm working through Jethro's Mel Bay book, and got carried away thinking it was The Mandolin Jethro Played. Silly me. Good thing i don't have the money! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Does it have some sort of weird groove/ridge on the back of the neck? It doesn't really look like a reflection to me, though I suppose it could be.

Actually, I just looked through the Mel Bay book and there are two photos where it looks like he is playing this mandolin.

The photos actually show that 'mark' in two separate places on the neck.
I would bet they are reflections.

I wonder if the 2 round wear spots on the top, above the lower F hole, are from finger tip wear? If so, It cetainly was someones favorite gibson. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The extra long tailpiece caught my attention, wonder if its just the cover, looking different,
or, the hooks are closer to the bridge too?
