Just saw this band last night here in Goshen, IN. What a hoot of a show! Great stage presence with lots of goofball humor that kept the audience laughing along to their great music, most of which is original. While mandolin is not a big presence in their music, a "Montana-era Flatiron" does make an appearance a few times throughout the show.

Members of the band have reportedly won awards for composition at Winfield - and for good reason. Take a listen to several samples at the band's website. (http://www.lawrence.com/bands/the_alferd_packer_memorial_stringband/)

This is indeed one band you won't ever forget if you see them. Their long history of playing in the local post office until midnight (http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/apr/11/tax/) on tax day is legendary and has landed them on several national TV broadcasts. My wife did their current CD cover and they are a great bunch of folks who will be making a surprise appearance at my daughter's birthday party in a couple of weeks. She loves their song about pi.
