When I saw this on everyone's favorite auction site, I didn't know what it was but I had to have it (my wife even said "You definitely should go after this"). #After getting it in hand, its better than the pictures and sounds wonderful to. #After consulting many "experts and pundits" and lots of photos and examinations, the conclusion is it is an early 1900's one off by the Larson Brothers. #Robert Hartman, #author of The Larson's Creations[U], provided the definitive opinion. I just think of it as my very cool mandolin.

Bizarre. It's like Knutsen meets Brandt. I'd be willing to bet that's exactly what it was in the minds of ol' Carl and August.

With just a subtle hint of a scroll.

With all due respect, it kind of reminds me of an instrument designed by Gary Larson. Definitely on the Far Side of design...

The craftsmanship is impeccable (carved top and back, carved ebony bridge, ivory and abalone inlays) and the action and sound are wonderful 100 years later. #Those Larson Brothers definitely had their own ideas but time has shown that they sure knew what they were doing. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
