I had some Ameritage cases in our store last year. I did not like them at all. I felt they were poorly built, overpriced, and did not properly protect the mandolin. I would never carry my mandolin in one. It is essentially a cheap imitation of the TKL rectangular case with a cheap humidified in the case and a tweed cover...plastic tweed. The dealer cost was higher than Calton and not near the case.

I had one of their guitar cases and was so disappointed in it that I traded it for a $150 gig bag just to get rid of the thing...atleast the gig bag still gets use.

It offered nothing in the way of protection to a working player, especially for that cost. It was also a bulky thing to carry, not balanced at all...I know this isn't necessarily the same with the mando case but you would think there would be better research and development with a case of that cost.

I don't mean to sound like I'm slamming it so much...but thinking about the cost makes it worse...

whew...
Guess I'm in the minority, once again. I'm happy with mine.
I think it's well-built and protects my Michael Lewis 'Django' extremely well.
I wouldn't check it on an airline, but I'm confident in just every day use.

There may well be a difference in quality depending on when and where the Ameritage case was made. They used to be made in the USA, (Michigan?) but now are made in Central America, Costa Rica I think. The one Ted has was made in the USA.
