Between Get Up John, Cotton Eyed Joe and Sleepy Eyed John, I'm getting confused.

I would pose the same question as suggested above... Are you sure you aren't thinking of "Sleepy eye'd JOHN".. - Anyhow, good luck. Keep us "posted"... Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Well, I'm not sure. I know it was Norman Blake, but I thought it said "Sleepy Eyed Joe" on my internet radio station.

The website http://folkindex.mse.jhu.edu/S11.htm#Sleeyjo
indicates "Sleepy Eyed Joe" was cut 7 on Whiskey Before Breakfast"

Sleepy Eyed Joe

Rm - Hey! Wake Up John
Ashby, John; and the Free State Ramblers. Fiddling by the Hearth, County 773, LP (1979), cut# 3
Blake, Norman. Whiskey Before Breakfast, Rounder 0063, LP (1987), cut# 7
Enloe, Lyman. Fiddle Tunes I Recall, County 762, LP, cut# 20

More thoughts? Thanks.

I think this was the album. Natasha's Waltz
by Norman & Nancy Blake

The mando solo caught my ear and I remember the artists were Normand and Nancy.

Hey! Speaking of Get up John, I need the tab to that. Anyone have it? That song just blows me away. TIA,
Brian

If you mean the song that uses an alternate open D tuning,I know it as Get Up John/Sleepy Eyed John, then I am currently working it out with my instructor. We are transcribing it from a Frank Wakefield album. It seems to be a pretty easy song for the left hand but a bear for the right. I will try and get it into Tab in the next two weeks or so. I am just swamped with work now. Otherwise I can send you a copy of my chicken scratches on paper, and you can finish it.

I believe Sam Bush does it on a instructional video.
