Is the configuration of your serial number "213 85" with a space between the digits, or are all the numbers in sequence "21385"? A front photo of the headstock would be helpful. Best, Sam

Some of the "Sumi Era" Kentucky mandolins (Maruko shop) have serial numbers that begin with the year built (i.e. 84 xxx). Others of that era have serial numbers ending with year built. Some have spaces separating the numbers, some don't.

Here is a quote from 'Desert Rose' (Cafe member who has/had firsthand knowledge): "Sumi says as he has always said the serial numbers were so screwed up they mean nothing."

As stated above, a headstock photo would be helpful... to at least put you in the ballpark.

Having said all that... Danny Clark is probably right... 1985:)
