I have yet to see a completely white faced mandolin.
Are they out there?

And if not is it because white finish is too much of a pain? I wonder only because i have an IV kit that i want to get experimental with in terms of finish and Im thinking of a nice White-Orange/red sunburst http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Gibson also made a white face mandolin, the A3. HERE's (http://www.vintagemandolin.com/19gibsona3_50023.html) one from Charles Johnson's site.

Morgan Monroe had one out briefly called the White Lightening.. It can be seen here (http://www.folkofthewood.com/page3780.htm) on the Folk of the Wood Website.

Do you think itll be possible to make a red center sunburst into outer edged white? From what i can gather when you stain the wood the darker color runs to the endgrain, thus making it tought to have a darker color in the middle.

I prefer to call it a blonde.

THats the thing... I have seen many blonde mandos, particularly on this post but i still have yet to see a bleach white mandolin.

Don Rigsby plays a "white" 2 point oval hole Red Diamond mando made by Don MacRosite. It is quite beautiful. You can see a pic of it if you go to www.countrysales.com and search for Rock County's "Rock Solid" album. Don is pictured on the front holding it. This mando is not blonde, it is white.

Doesn't Butch Baldasarri have one on the cover of one of his CDs? (OR is it possibly a little more erratic than that - like, covered in sequins?) I can't remember.

Butch Baldassari has a white Gibson F-5 that I believe was made in the Gibson custom shop... From what I recall, it has a lot of fancy abalone inlay. I think it is shown in Butch's Accutab book, which I have a copy of somewhere...

Blondes show the grain. Most of the ones referred to in this post have an opaque (albiet not "bleach" white) finish. I asked about white faced mandos in this thread. (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=25153;hl=white+faced) None of these are white bursts though. That would be interesting to see.

That BRW made me catch my breath. I think my palms are sweaty, too. Can you imagine that in a 2-point? Ben does great work.

Hide the checkbook!

Eclectic_Enthusiast, I can really see what you are talking about. Kind of like this almost candy apple red that burst into like a pearl white. That would definitly be awesome. That really brings this guitar to mind, however it would have to be reversed, with the "blue" or red in your case in the center and the pearl white on the outside.

What did you have in mind for the sides and back? Solid white?

That guitar is a great example, just flip it and change the color like you said.
For the sides im still not sure... i was contemplating black or darker colored binding but im not sure bout that either.
If it were to be dark colored binding id have the white sides, but if I use white binding then i might make the sides a similar color to the red but a bit more woody (if that makes any since) and the back would be white either way.

I think it would rather cool to have the back and top both a candy apple red that burst into pearl white on the sides. Then put on pearl white binding and make the sides pearl white. The neck is a little tricky. Maybe a full solid white neck, or a red to white burst.

Can you picture this mando with white binding around the inside of the f holes like on a Doyle Lawson model Gibson. Eclectic_Enthusiast, you got me all crazy thinking about this mando. I think I feel the symptoms of MAS coming on again.

Yea I have all these pictures running through my head, i dont know which combo im gonna do yet, i just hope i see a new breed of pearl whities out there!
