Hi all,

I played a pretty nice A9 today, really nice tone and volume.
My funds for MAS are short at moment but I was considering trading a 1962 Martin 0018 for it, what do you think? The Martin needs a neck reset, has OHSC and is in very good condition, no cracks, I'm not big into the guitar scene so I,m not sure what it's worth. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Is it a 00-18 or 000-18? In either case, it's probably worth more than an#A9. Even if it needs a neck reset.

You might try posting on the Unoffical Martin Guitar Forum. They'll tell you what it's worth.

Follow the discussion at the UMGF (http://pub125.ezboard.com/ftheunofficialmartinguitarforumfrm4.showMessage?to picID=17366.topic)

There are some great guys at the UMGF, very similar to community here. I took the liberty of quoting your post and putting it over there to help you get some more information.

According to Vintage Guitar Price Guide, a '62 0018 in exc. condition would be $2000-2600. A 00018 would be $2500-3000.

Now yours is not in excellent condition. A neck set would be about $300 or so. Even with yours needing that, I think it is worth far more than the A9. I saw a brand new A9 in NY for $1295. Prety nice mandolin tho.

$1295 is expensive for an A9. I've never seen one go that high. In New York there's a shop selling them for about 1000$ new.

I'm extremely pleased with mine.

Thanks all for the quick response, I had a feeling that the guitar was worth more, oh it's a 00-18 by the way. The price on the A9 is 1150.00 http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I love the 00-18's. I'd make you an offer, except I already have one!

HOLD IT!!!! "the A9 thought is a thing of the past"I just got a look at the Collins MF on the CAFE home page...if I'm gonna do a satin plain jane, I think I'll wait for one of them.
Thanks again guys for helping me remain "sane" http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I don't think the MT and the A9 should immediately be lumped into the same category because they both are unadorned and simply finished.

I see that Collings has added both the MT and MF mandolins to their web site.

Keep the Martin! #It is a much more valuable instrument, and has significantly more historical value....worth getting the neck reset over buying a Gibson A-9, Collings whatever, or just about any instrument with a satin finish IMHO.

And most importantly, I've never met a man who traded or sold his Martin and didn't live to have the regret come to haunt him.

Doanepoole,

I have come to my senses...Yea I'm keeping the Martin. I was just experienceing poor judgement brought on by a sudden case of MAS. And grsnovi, I know what you mean http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
