I was given a challange by a customer to build him a six string mando. He had bought a Gibson six string but the scale and spaceing was too close for him to play. It also didn't have the sound he was looking for. I mulled it over and drew up some plans and here is what I have so far (see picture).
Specs: scale 15 3/4"; nut width 1 7/16"--12th fret 1 13/16"; body width 10 1/2"--higth 13 1/8"--standard mando depth.
I am going to use 8 strings with 6th--4th singls and 2nd--1st doubles. My reason for this is to try and give the instrument more of a mando sound at the higher register. Tuning will be EADGBE.
Well, what do you all think? Has any one tried this and what results did you have?
