Yup, I've died and gone to Heaven!

Recently I have been fortunate enough to participate in two really wonderful mandolin gatherings (what should we call these?). You know, a couple of mando-nerds getting together with their collection of instruments and passing 'em around.

My most recent episode was just last night at Jason Parker's house. Jason is the proud owner of a Fletcher Brock F-Style mandola which is most notable for its blondness. Also in attendamce was Rich Levine (new Heiden F-5), Lance Brittain (brought a killer F-4), Gary Davidson (1923 A-Style) and myself with my new Fletcher Brock oval-hole.

I will get the details on this collection later and post then here if any are interested, but I couldn't wait to post a picture.

Easiest way to do it is to change the pixel depth from 300 dpi (or wahtever) to 96 dpi, which is standard for the web. That (and optimization in Photoshop) took my image to 56k from 5.6M. The board mandates files less than 76.5k.

I couldn't get past downloading ifranview but the image optimizer at www.xat.com is free and easy enough for somebody like me who can't even post a link.

There are examples of very large photos under 76k of the weber hybrid on pg 2 in the post a pic of your mando part of the board. Posted before I figured out how to shrink 'em.

Well, I definitely need a better camera and better picture taking talent, but what a great group of folks that attended my O'Carolan Workshop and Fund-Raiser for the mandolin program at the Americana Music Academy (http://www.americana-music.org/) this past Saturday. Great BBQ and beverages followed.

Ohhhh man! I just played a Sullivan and fell absolutely in love. One of these days, I'm tellin ya... They are awesome instruments

'Nother pic from Inverness. I saw the thread on the message board and I was so excited to talk about it. Joe Craven is amazing. Great jamming all weekend long with fiddles, banjos, lots and lots of mandos, basses, octave mandos, mandocellos, electric mandos...and many more.

Joe's workshop on Sunday was a real eye opener--if not formost because it made it plain I have more practicing to do! ;) And there were some amazing mandolins there--a Master Model that just floored me (dare I say I liked it better than the July 9, 1923?), and a Phoenix that was no slouch either. A new Kimble appeared that was killer on all counts. Heidens, at least 3 Gils, I got to play my first Brentrup...Stinetts, Gibsons, a Ratcliff ( ;) ), that Sullivan, and the mellondolin. A great time!

As stated, Great mandolins to tryout as well. Bought my Tone Guard direct from Tony, great time had.
