This is currently on the shop goodwill site. Is this a custom made mandolin? Big splits in the back. Anyone seen one of these?

Production mandolin, affectionately referred to as a "sunfish" mandolin here. Several threads to look through here (https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=iNNnXuS1JJLI1QHHk4dQ&q=sunfish+site%3Amandolincafe.com&oq=sunfish+site%3Amandolincafe.com&gs_l=psy-ab.3...2488.9523..9863...0.0..0.227.2345.28j1j1... ...0....1..gws-wiz.....6..0i362i308i154i357j0i131j0j0i324j0i22i30 .l0x-DJ_NaJk&ved=0ahUKEwjkmfybvJDoAhUSZDUKHcfJAQoQ4dUDCAg&uact=5).

Scroll down a bit for some pictures here (https://www.google.com/search?q=sunfish+site:mandolincafe.com&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjNrP-hvJDoAhXyV98KHflfCjwQ_AUoAXoECAsQAw&cshid=1583862724882095&biw=1280&bih=939).

I'm thinking that if you're not careful about how you rest that thing on your lap, it could cause some serious damage to unmentionable parts of the anatomy . . . .

True, but it'd be one way to get that high lonesome sound. :disbelief:

I just registered with the cafe, thanks admin. THIS is the 1st post I read & exactly the object of my curiosity!

Mandolin lore is a very specialized kind of weird.

Many thanks to the OP Graciela, mod Mike & all those original posters. I can move on now.
