Hi, new to the site, got a few questions in regards to set up. I’m trying to give my mandolin a lower action, it was a terrible set up straight from the shop. It is only a cheap Ibanez 510e. I’ve filed down the nut a bit at a time and got the correct height at the nut and I’ve come to adjust the bridge height, the adjuster is right at the lowest point and won’t lower and further. Why is it that the bridge has been made so high for this mandolin? Are there any lower bridges I can buy, the adjustable ones, do they come in different heights? What’s the best material? Do I need to sand it down? The other question is intonation, doesn’t the bridge have to be in the same place all the time, I’ve heard of people moving the bridge back and forth on the body to get a better string height. How is this possible if the bridge has to be in the same place due to intonation? Appreciate the help.
