I am hoping that one of you folks can tell me if there is significant difference between the construction techniques used on the Weber's and other good F-style instruments ? I know so little about the subject...hardly know how to ask the question...wondering about bracing, neck construction, etc. I really like the Yellowstones...wonder how they are put together.
Thanks

I think Weber uses an X-brace instead of tone bars, I know they do on some models, not sure if they are on all models. As far as quality, everyone seems to think they are great. A friend of mine has one, I like the tone very much, but don't care much for the looks. I think Weber used to work a Gibson, so he knows his stuff. JD

One design characteristic found in all Weber's is the Mortise and Tenon joint used to secure the neck to the body. The M&T joint is glued and a small bolt is used for extra measure. Yes, many of the Weber's come with X bracing although you can order with tone bars too. Bruce Weber built Mandolins during the pre and post Gibson Flatiron days. Bruce graduates all the tops on the carved top Mandolins they produce.

Yonkle,
From my experiences (2 Webers)the Brekke bridge in its standard form emphasizes the lows and has a little more of a dark sound. In both cases going to a Loar-style bridge brightened the tone of each instrument. Peter Coomb wrote an article about modifying the Brekke to make it lighter resulting in a tone he prefers:

This is something I plan to try sometime. BTW your Siminoff kit mando is looking awesome! Keith
