Here are some pics of the mandolin that Keith Newell has been building for me. It should be ready to go within a month or so.

The top is red spruce. The back is solid one piece red maple. Back and sides are red maple. It is tortoise/white/black binding with binding on the sides. The head stock is a custom design that we came up with. It will be a black top with a burgundy wine burst on the back and sides.

Enjoy.

I have to clarify the last picture from Tim. The strange looking stuff along the binding is the tape I use to mask off excess glue while glueing the binding. Here is a better shot of the top and back at the tailpiece side pieces joint.

Thanks Keith!! I did not even notice that there.

Oh yeah... something else...Keith is one hell of a Celtic mandolin player. Don't let him be too modest about it. He can flat out pick!!!

Thanks for dragging me along to the Celtic jam. That was one of best experiences I have ever had playing music. I can see how people get the bug!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Here is a few more pics that Keith has provided. It should be done in about a week or so.

These photos show the mandolin not buffed out yet. The finish is still curing.

It does look real nice. I have a feeling that these pictures don't do it the justice that it deserves. I think this is some of Keith's best work so far. I should have it in my hands next week and can give a full report.

Great job Keith.

Wow, very nice! I love the combination of red and tortoise binding. I've only one question though" any random hippie sanding done to it? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
