Hello guys,
I finally finished my F5 #003. Actually it is the fourth one as I finished #004 before this one.
All European woods, except the ebony. Maple bindings, violin oil varnish with french polish.
The pearl is engraved/scrimshaw-ed

Very lovely instrument, but you didn't answer mandoman15's question above!
So, how does she sound?
Thanks all, and sorry for being too late. I wasn't on-line for last couple of days.
Sounded great. I kept it for some time as my personal mando, but annoying customer made me sell it to him http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . I didn't have time to take pics, he sent me these, they are a bit darker than real color, which is closer to light tobacco.
Not the "Loar" sound like the #004 I posted couple months ago, but very rich and loud and played like butter.
Have a nice day.

I love the Eagle inlay and I'm glad you were creative enough not to use the flowerpot!
Nice aged-looking binding, too.

That scroll looks like it's right on the money,
at least to my untrained eye -- Nice looking mando.

For what its worth, I had a chance to play this mandolin (I think) at the EWOB festival in Holland this spring. I remember it had a HUGE sound and compares nicely to everything I recall having played. I remember it to sound very woody and dry and it was quite lightweighted also- a great axe for sure!

Great work HoGo. I always thought that I'd like to have a raptor on a headstock if I did my own - nice Osprey.
Hi Klaus, yes it's the one I played in Holland.
Goog eye pickinNgrinnin! The bird's latin name is Pandion haliaetus but I didn't know it's called Osprey in the US.

In order to answer that, you need to go back one step farther and understand that the old joke is that armadillos are laughingly called "Hard shelled possums" by a lot of folks. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
From there, it goes to how to serve them, which would be the same as some oysters are served: On the half shell. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Oh, I just saw the post... Ron's answer is a good one. Surprisingly, I've run into several folks that "ain't from around here" that don't really know what an armadillo is.
Mostly, I just saw this description printed on something one day and thought it was funny. I havn't bothered to change it after the "new" wore off. There's no deep, underlying meaning. Sorry if I kept you up late trying to figure it out. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
BTW, I've never eaten possum or armadillo, and none were harmed in the creation of the tag line. Several have met their fate on the highways and biways, however--I take no responsibility for those.

I like the maple binding. Isn't it an osprey though? (Great work!)
Steve, yes, it is an osprey. I didn't write it clearly enough. (English is not my native language...)

It's good enough that it should cause you very little problems!
SJennings......
Have you ever considered whether or not armadillo shells would be a good binding or inlay material? Might start a buisness with em...
