Would anyone know who is currently number one in the US bluegrass charts? Although I wasn't there, I'm told that a very pretty, female, early 20's, red-haired, American fiddle player (and her band) came into my shop in Adare,Ireland, yesterday. She told my assistant Orla, that the band is number one in the US bluegrass charts at the moment.

I guess I missed another star at Shanna Quay! But who was it???

Don't know who it might be but Blugrass Unlimited has survey on their site: #Top Bluegrass songs/albums (http://www.bluegrassmusic.com/index.php?issue=21601&page=survey)

Could it be Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek?

Alison Kraus is a bit older and not redheaded but she's a chartopper (although it's difficult for me to call it bluegrass, sorry). Currently at #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited chart. #1 is Doyle Lawson and no one will confuse him for an early 20's redheaded female!

Kraus' site doesn't mention any Irish tour. Sounds to me like someone boasting a bit.

It might be Becky Buller with the band Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike. Becky has a song on the BU charts from a solo release.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I have a very strong feeling, too, that it was Becky Buller. I've followed the link to her website and will show her photo to Orla, on Saturday. I'll let you know what she says! I've also dropped Becky a note on her contact page.

Thanks again,

Steve

Moose sez: "Nobody want's to play Rhythm Guitar Behind Jesus"

Is that a song?

I'm not much of a christian, but I'd take that job, I love playing rhythm guitar!!!

I would just hope he hasn't got "a girlfriend who sings" tho... LOL!!

Hey sliabhstv! - Yes!, it is a song - but at the moment I can't recall who wrote/recorded it. I remember it from years(!?#) ago - 70's, I think. I'll ask around from by music people/pickers/friends of long ago - if any are still around - and have their memoy left!....hee.. hee..(yes, I miss 'em - AND those music "daze")- now I got a "real" job! - (see: also hee.. hee..)- Incidently.., good-solid rhythm players are hard-to-find. yes, really! The line is from a song called "Rhythm Guitar" by Johnny Paycheck.

That's all I know!

Awww, (insert invective here that christians would probably dislike) !!

Always looking for a playing job... (Any other huge spiritual avatars need a rhythm gtr/zouk player?)

And I'm not really 'star material' so I enjoy playing a supporting role.

A_Steve, I can already tell that you know way too much about American country music ...

Thanks for the pointer, tho. Now I have to go and hear the tune!

I've shown a photo of Becky Buller to Orla, my assistant at Shanna Quay - and yes, it was Becky that came into the shop last week! What a shame I missed her!

Thanks to all the very knowledgeable folks here who helped me identify her!

Well, Becky should check her charts. Is there another one besides BU? She's at #30 with Opal, Ruby and Pearl, dead last on the chart. Maybe she's reading it upside-down? Liberty Pike isn't on the chart at all.

The July 2005 issue of Bluegrass Now is out and we were overwhelmed to find "The Master's Garden" at #1 on the magazine's "Gospel Truths Chart." (Becky is currently hopping up and down and hyperventilating at the news. We haven't been able to calm her down yet, but hope to before we have to get her on the plane to London with the band on Thursday morning at 6 a.m. Thanks for keeping them in your prayers while they're overseas.)
