Greek Music

[Bugs]

Last night while watching Rick Steves Greek adventure I heard a tune that has driven me to learn some Greek tunes now. I was curious if anyone knew of a site similar to say Traditional-Music.org (Irish) that is just for Greek? The Traditional-Music page has both the sheet music and midis of the melody so you can listen to different stuff.

I am in a listening, absorbing mode and want to find a couple sweeties to learn. Any help would be appreciated.

Niles did you play that first tune on the tenor banjo back when I saw you last? #I am finally going ahead and getting one! #I am so excited about it. #I will tune it for Irish, and plan to learn a lot of Irish. #This Greek bouzouki thing is getting to me now so I want to expand and learn some sweet, happy Greek tunes, and try some weird Blues stuff too. #

If you want mandolin music that is greek, you should buy vic kioulaphades' books, he has three of them, you can find them in the classified here, but you have to go back to semptember 03 I think.. I like them and play them a lot .

The tunes in my three anthologies are specifically traditional, folk/popular mandolin music; sweet and happy, yes, but none of the heart-wrenching pathos of the rebetika. I could easily send you a copy of one (or all) without any obligation on your part to keep it; if you choose to return it, all is well, no questions asked. I don't make my living as a publisher.

Now, I would love to preserve and disseminate the lovely, charming folk/popular mandolin tradition of my native Greece; having said that, I am not here to solicit customers with deceptive advertisement.

Victor's arrangements (or maybe the music itself) is so intimately connected with the very character of the mandolin that chunks of it insinuate themselves into your ear and hands; I find bits of it popping out spontaneously. Nothing at all wrong with sweet and happy, in my book.

Ordered the book mentioned in the Rebetika posts - hasn't arrived yet.

Hey that does sound good! Frankly I do like the Blues and that specific style of Greek music you are referring to. But its spring you know, warm weather, Greek islands, those terrific gyros, and of course those beautiful bouzouki's. I have hunkered down into reading music again so I think I could manage okay-I have improved a lot in the last month!

Can you send me your address Vic? Do you have a link to any info on this book?
