Does such a thing exist? If you know of more than one, which is your favorite and why? Studying such a thing will be a big stretch for me, but what the heck, it's such a lovely piece of music.

Hmmm. Not aware of any, but when our guitar editor gets back from Europe maybe we can look into the possibility at Wolfhead. Would be interesting.

Frederic Hand (guitar) plays a few Vivaldi pieces on the soundtrack to Kramer vs. Kramer (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000025FY/qid=1121803966/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-8020090-5831827?v=glance&s=classical&n=507846).

It is possible that Hand has published his arrangements. The other place I would try is Trekel (http://www.trekel.de/cgi-bin/shop2000/front/trekelshop.cgi?func=start&wkid=8595182464789215&page=&first=1&nocache=1121804321).

Actually, on further digging I did find an edition for mandolin and guitar published by Breitkopf and Haertel (#EB-8425). Don't know if it's still in print, but let us know what you discover.

I found at least three Vivaldi concertos arranged for guitar and mandolin at the Guitar Solo site also.

John Goodin:
It took me a little while to find these pieces on that Guitar Solo site. Here (http://www.gspguitar.com/jsp2/listSearch.jsp?search_category=sheet&search_keyword=mandolin&alpha=&display=20&navSet=1) is my search page.

B&H8425 VIVALDI, ANTONIO Konzert In C [Guitar & MANDOLIN] $15.50

S48335 VIVALDI, ANTONIO Concerto in C [Guitar & MANDOLIN] PERMANENTLY OUT OF PRINT $4.95

ZM1358 VIVALDI, ANTONIO Konzert [Guitar & 2 MANDOLINs] $14.00
ZM1820 VIVALDI, ANTONIO Konzert In C [Guitar & 2 MANDOLINs] $18.00

Looks like the first one is the one that Operaguy found. I wonder if there is an arrangement of the double mandolin concerto also with guitar.

I would guess that ZM1358 would be the RV 532, but the website doesn't say.

Oops... I read too fast and didn't notice. You are probably right about the double.

Oops, my lack of preparation for the question is showing. I'm looking for the double, RV 532.

I have RV 532, two additions I think (this is from memory, I am at work). One is the Behrend edition, the other is (or may be), the Troster edition. I like the latter better.

Hi Robert,

We've been working on the Behrend version, do you any specific reason for preferring the Troster edition?

best wishes,
Mark

I'll look at them again but my recollection is that I preferred the guitar part in the Troster -- Behrend's guitar arrangements I often find to be pretty stodgy -- and that I thought the same about the mandolin part (Michael Troster, as it happens, was Behrend's student). The two arrangements differ, if I recall correctly, in the material given to the mandolin vs. guitar. But it may be that I simply like Gertrud's playing very much and this carries over into a bias in favor of their arrangements, sans any specific musical reasons. In any case, whatever differences exist are pretty minor relative to the quality of the music, which is very high.

Thank you for your input. Time for me to do some research.
