Dear NG,
One of these days. . . . . I ruminate about building an instrument, but right now is not the time. That said, if I know what I'm looking for, I may be able to start a wood collection. So, here is the question. If I find a tree of the correct species (i.e., spruce, maple, etc.), how do I then tell if a slice from it would make a good instrument? I guess if someone else found the log, took the slice, properly dried it, and marketed it as such, the experience may be able to tell, but how do you tell when the tree is standing or the log is in the truck?
Can you tell by my question, that I am just beginning to look into this?
Thanks in advance.
