I'm wondering if any of you Ui12/Ui16 users out there have the same issue I have - protecting the mixer and laptop from baking in the sun. All of the outdoor gigs we do provide some sort of shelter, but it's often a pop-up with just enough room for the band. I set up the mixer and laptop on a small (3'x2') folding table and try to keep it under roof and in the shade, but the creeping sunlight has often gotten to the electronics, causing overheating a few times. Not a fatal problem yet, but it means that I can't change any settings until things cool down and the interfaces work again. But it stresses me out:) I'd love to know if any of you have encountered this problem and come up with a solution.

Not much you cando about the sun shining, but something like this might help...

I find it's direct sunlight more than ambient temperature. I've ordered one of these (http://shadepop.com/product/shadepop/) to see if it helps.

That's what I was going to suggest, an umbrella will keep the sun off and keep the temp down. Hope that one is large enough.

If it's just direct sunlight and you're not constantly fiddling with the mixer, a plain old while towel can be a down and dirty quick solution. If it's a frequent occurrence, the laptop cooler would be a useful addition.

I've had my iPad overheat a few times from the sun, thus rendering my mackie dl1608 quite useless at a gig. I now lay a jacket or towel out of fear of a locked mixer.

We have a couple of iPhones set up for adjusting the monitor mix to our 1608, mine also has all the channels enabled so I could jump in if necessary. My iPad is also ready to swap in with cloned settings, if the other one dies. I’m paranoid about having options & bail-out scenarios in place.

Has anyone tried one of these? They look like a good shade/anti-glare option?

Or even better value...

That IKEA one looks like a great idea! I think I'll get one of those as a backup to the umbrella.

I also have my phone as a backup to the laptop, but's it's really anxiety-making, since I almost never use the phone platform. I've had both the mixer and the laptop overheat and lock up, but at least they keep on working. I just lose the ability to change settings.

I'm also going to add a towel to the kit. I've used a rain jacket in the past, but I should really have something dedicated. In most aspects of my life I'm a strict minimalist, so having to pack endless amounts of junk in preparation for any eventuality is my least favorite part of gigging.

I might use an umbrella or bumbershoot but if I used a parasol, I'd have to turn in my man card.
