Life is good. The weather is fantastic for sitting on the back porch and picking. The dog is chasing birds out back and having a blast ( She catches them in her mouth out of the air, spits them out, and they fly away, unharmed.) Very entertaining to watch. Wife and kids are out of the house. Hardly working. And, the last couple of days I've been playing waaay over my head. However, it has lasted long enough that I'm starting to think I'm not over my head anymore, that maybe I have finally arrived at a higher level. That and the mandolin just sounds fantastic. It arrived in February and is growing up to be a real beauty tone-wise.
Life is good right now..... back to playing.

Its a pretty amazing thing when life comes together, you see the colors and feel the cool breeze and harmony can be felt.
Congrats- few people live well enough to be content with the day and beauty it presents.

Pete, congrats on the progress. #Isn't it a great feeling? #I'm going through the same exact thing right now. #I think I've graduated to Newbie Level II http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif I have even been able to crank up the metronome quite a few notches lately.

hey mando pete and hydrilla,
how long have you guys been playing??? Just curious where you were at when you reached that next level. Not trying to compare myself, but it's interesting to hear your perspective.
Also, what was it that made you feel like you moved to the next level? Was it a specific thing (chop, rhythm, tremolo, picking, etc.) or just an overall feel when you're playing?
Thanks,
Kelly

I'm in my fifth year. I've progresed from just playing simple melody to playing chord melody, giving a much fuller sound. I've found I can do it to anything and do it in time. Plus I can suddenly play what I hear in my head.
I took a music theory / ear training class at a community college last fall and it is all coming together now.
I highly recommend the class if you don't already have that kind of background.
