Sold my custom F9 around 3 weeks ago to fund a small business start up. F9 sold here in the classifieds within an hour of posting(thank you MC).
Shipped it out and the sudden feeling of being mandolin-less became very apparent. I have 2 wonderful guitars, a weissenborn, open back banjo, ebera superb Girouard octave, so i have plenty to keep me occupied.
By the 2nd day i was scouring the classifieds thinking i might try to find a well used MT, and ironically found out clement was thinking about selling my old Pava satin, that he purchased from me a few years ago.
The only problem was a zero balance in my instrument fund, and the F9 dollars went to the necessary business plan.
I have everything to build an A style, and my plan was to get that going. But with everything else i have going on, i knew it would be maybe a year out for completion.
Happened to get a sale mail from TMS, and opened it up. Within a few scrolls there it was.....

And my MandolinStore card had a 0 balance.
Dropped a Dennis an email, got the particulars, sat on it overnite. I didnt think it would last long, so i jumped on it. Dennis told me i would love it.

So the "shopworn" Weber Yellowstone arrived friday.
It has a few upgrades TMS ordered, a scooped florida, fern inlay, adi top, and a beautiful burst.
Came with the rectagular case(impressive and well laid out case).
I love Weber necks, they fit my hands perfect, and having spent time with a couple different similar priced brands, i came to realize i really like the Weber tone.
It arrived, and i must say, i am extremely impressed with everything about it.
Our home has had a couple of the Bruce Weber models pass thru the last couple years. This is the first of the 2OH models that ive had in hand.
The build, tone, woods are exceptional. I see a lot of precision in this mandolin, the nut slots, bridge slots, binding, finish, all on par with any Collings i have owned. Collings is my standard measure of build quality. The F9, the Pava, and now this Weber, all sit on the same top shelf as the Collings builds.
The tuners work butter smooth with no load build up, and no slop. Very easy to tune with fingertips and no strain.
I have missed the ease of adjustment that the Weber bridge offers. Solid, easy to adjust with the supplied wrench under full string tension.
The tone of this one is full, deep, and very balanced.
So easy to play and listen too.
And of course, excellent customer care from Dennis and Brian at TMS.

I don't see anything shopworn about that mandolin - congratulations on making the decision in time!

Daryl,

Congrats on the Yellowstone. My Yellowstone is at Bruce's shop for a new set of Rubner tuners and getting the head stock finish repaired. I let a friend use it for a concert a couple of years ago and the finish on the back of the head stock was damaged. He was a good friend, he has since passed away, and I told him not to worry about it.

Best wishs!!!!

that's a killer F9 Mitch and you knew it the moment you opened the case and laid hands on it-and, based on what Dennis told me a year ago when I purchased it, the first F9 to have those custom touches.

so glad it met your expectations and that it continues too.

play on and enjoy it fully

From Daryl - "......the sudden feeling of being mandolin-less became very apparent.". The 100% exact reason why i won't sell my virtually non-played banjo. I'd want it back immediately - if not sooner !.

Congrats. on the new Weber - you will love it - but !. Be carefull with that wrench on the tiny hexs. The wrench is hard steel, the hexs. are soft brass. One slip & off come the corners. As careful as i was being when i used the wrench,it did slip & i damaged the corners, but maybe that's just me,
