Is there a good book or resource that someone can recommend to help me get a grasp on instrument electronics and wiring? also, would be interested along the lines of winding your own pickups.

I'm in the middle of a move, but I think I know where to find my book on guitar wiring. I'll dig for it today and, if I find it, I'll post the title tonight. It got me through three different total new wiring/pickup/switch replacements.

OK, I went up to the shop and dug the book out. It's "Guitar Electronics for Musicians" Author is Donald Brosnac. Publisher is AMSCO Publications. ISBN 0.7119.232.1. Published in 1983, but this ain't rocket science. It worked for me.

StewMac has downloadable schematics, if you don't see what you need they can, also, give a reasonable suggestion.
The value of the disc capacitor chosen makes a difference in the tone roll-off frequency and there are answers in that choice offered too.
