View Full Version : Breedlove mandolin auction

OK, no bites on the Breedlove donated by Ken Cartwright that's listed on the home page (http://www.mandolincafe.com). So, switching gears and opening up bids again.

The starting bid: 1 penny, and I get to bid too. Probably extend the end date a few days.

Make your bid from here (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=8932&query=retrieval), otherwise it won't be accepted.

Also, the instrument is actually a bit whiter than shown. Digital cameras tend to muck up colors and I couldn't get the reddish tinge out of that pic with some color correction.

How do I bid here? #I've not done it before.
Do I do it through the reply to add link or the symposium funraiser link?

Mar-10-2004, 10:22am

If I click on the 'here' in Scott's first post where do I submit the bid when the page opens up? I'm assuming that I bid in the reply to ad #8932 link, but I just want to be sure.

To bid, go to the classifieds from the link provided in the post that started this thread. Or, here's the same link again (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=8932&query=retrieval). That will take you to the classifieds. From there it's just like any classified ad--the reply goes to my email address and I'll respond to you. I want the bidding hosted there, otherwise we limit this to board members. Thanks again for everyone's support.

Folks, this is exactly the mandolin that I play, the KO style. I can tell you that at least for my instrument it plays like a dream and when you chop it the thing barks like a big dog. #And yet you can get some great clean Thile-like tones out of it as well. #They're nice instruments.

If I
A) didn't already have one
B) had the money for it. And
C) my wife would allow me to buy it

then I'd bid on it as well.

BTW, I was surprised when I realized that mine was also an electric! #There's a 1/4" hole in the end pin for a cord and sure enough, it has a pickup in it. #Scott, do you know if this one has a pickup as well?

Mar-10-2004, 9:20pm

I would love to bid more on it but 500.00 was all I could do and I know that was an unrealistic bid for such a nice mando, but a girl can dream can't she.

Read the above post you dwellers of third world states.....
Kind of a shame that you have to have your mandolins imported to Texas from third world states like Oregon. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Dale, I hate to burst your bubble, or gas, but the blonde Breedlove mandolin center or the universe is not Texas, but Oregon. I would post a photo but you would think I was just grandstanding. I have one blonde Oregon, two KO's, two KF's, two Cascades, one Alpine. Blondes do have more fun. I don't order sunbursts from Breedlove, only blondes. Thanks to all who are bidding on the KO that I have donated. I have recieved much from Mandolin Cafe and I am proud that we have a community like the Cafe. Hail to the chief. Thanks Scott.....Kenc

Pick up that phone cowboy and start ordering more!!!!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I should of known Ken would recenter the universe & place me in orbit..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You folks need to give Ken a hand for donating that mando to the fundraiser. He always goes above & beyond for any worthwhile mando cause....& is a heck of a nice guy to boot.......Thanks Ken!

Is that KO still headed to ARKANSAS.......GAK!

Hey Ted (Mandohack) ole buddy, loan me some money would ya?....
Yeah, like I got any...
My chronic MAS care isn't covered in our HMO program.
Lately, because of some irresponsible acquisitions, I'm suffering internal cash hemorrhage like everyone else around here.

Mar-13-2004, 11:28am
Then who is gonna stop this poor mando from spending a life surrounded by banjos in the bowels of ARKANSAS.......?

Well, better there than Nebraska...... #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Watch your back Gary.......I still have time for an emergency garage sale!

A job well done by everyone I'll add. The Symposium organizers had a wish for around $5K for the fund and in the end with checks still in the mail, etc. I think that'll be raised. I've already seen $4,300+ filter through the PayPal, checks, message board activity, classifieds, etc. Still time to donate--actually there's no end to that ability--but we're just stopping the banging of the drum on Tuesday.

Speaking of mandolin centers of the universe, we're claiming that again here today in Lawrence. This afternoon I'm doing a fund-raiser O'Carolan mandolin workshop + BBQ and tons of fun and music is sure to follow. After 4PM someone else can claim it the center whilst we parteee.

And not only mandolins, but with KU whupping them poor ol' Missouri Tigers in basketball last night and those poor ol' Texas boys lining up to get the same this afternoon we'll claim temporary basketball center as well.

Yea, well, KU got their tails kicked by them Texas boys this afternoon so scratch that. See, this is why mandolins are safer than basketball. Poor ol' Dale apparently isn't even tuned in to b-ball. Wonder if he's aware the world's finest athlete in the world's finest sport is from Texas? Probably not. What's that guy's sport again? Boxing? Cycling? Anyone get that joke?

I feel for ya Scott, Im a staunch supporter of a chronic losing team which will remain nameless but Im still not ready to give up on em! I keep telling myself when they finally take it all it'll be that much sweeter but at times I do wonder. Mando's on the other hand are always sweet n tasty and only played by winners!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

We have a winner.

Thanks to everyone who participated. We are *DONE* with this fund raising for the Symposium but the pages where donations are accepted will continue to be online minus the drum beating.

Job well done, everyone, and you have my thanks.
