I love the understated beauty of that mandolin. It sounds great too.

I've always considered it the most beautiful mandolin I've seen or played. I had Michael stain my Heiden A the same as John's however the bindings were already on so couldn't get that neat binding look. I was down to Michael's shop 2 weeks ago to pick the wood for my Heiden guitar (coming soon) and while I was there saw a few A models in construction. Some very lucky people are having some beautiful mandolins built.

From Dave above -"I've always considered it the most beautiful mandolin I've seen or played.". That model of Michael's is certainly one of the lovliest mandolin that i've ever seen. I've had this pic. of John R. holding his Heiden on my PC since he got it.
The only other mandolin that i've seen that has such 'understated' beauty,is the Gilchrist model 5 Jnr.,recently bought by a Cafe member, again, simplistic beauty,
Ivan;)

Very nice. "Balanced and responsive" indeed.
I admire Heiden's non-burst finishes enough to save this picture from the classifieds in case I ever found myself deciding on how I'd like my next mandolin to look

Dave, please say a few words about your upcoming guitar from Michael Heiden! Archtop?

Michael, I've always wanted a Heiden guitar and now late in life (I'm 79) the opportunity arose. So I talked to Michael a few months back and placed an order for a custom dreadnaught. I picked some really nice indian rosewood for a 3-piece back with matching sides. Mahog neck .. neck shape the same as the neck on John Cronin's Heiden guitar. John Cronin was Ian Tyson's guitarist for a few years and lives near me. Top will be Adirondack spruce. Very plain bindings, inlays, slightly larger dots on side of the fretboard to aid my vision impairment. Asked Michael to keep the guitar understated and plain... Like me and my Heiden mandolin. I asked Michael to think rhythm tone will he's building it. It should be ready in early spring.

I've got one of those plain brown Heidens too. Not a Heritage model, but I bet it would sound just like John's if he played it. :)
