I must confess: I suffer from BAS(Bowlback Acquisition Syndrome). So, when recently a bowlback made by Christian Sandner appeared in the German ebay ads, I couldn't say NO!
It is a nice German bowlback with a zero fret an a little wider nut than for example those Japanese bowlbacks have. Contrary to them, the neck profile is rather round than v-shaped. But other than most German bowlbacks, the Sandner has an oval soundhole not a round one.
It's the model 301 which has a maple bowl, whereas model 401 has a rosewood bowl.
Christian Sandner doesn't seem to have a website, he was born 1949, so probably he is already retired, but he worked in the Vogtland, known for its instrument building.
His bowlbacks still sell in stores though, for a decent price.

I got mine for less than the half of the one sold here. Other than this one, mine has an armrest.
I tried to record Oreste by Raffaele Calace with my new Sandner bowlback.
The picture you see in the video is my mandolin.

Omce in a while, used Sandner mandolins pop up in the German ebayKleinanzeigen, and I think they are decent instruments.
So, if you are new to bowlbacks and you don't want to spend a fortune on one, you might give a Sandner a try.
