I've got one of these $19 piezo pickups on my JBovier.

It is surprisingly good. I like that it has a gain control on it. Makes it easy to adjust for solos. I usually set it at about 3/4 for sound check, then give it a spin up to full for my solo, then dial it back when I'm done.
With any piezo pickup, you will hear a benefit with a DI/preamp. This is the one I use for this pickup and it works well in passive mode for only $30

It won't compare to a $120 condenser mic, but if you get one that puts out a relatively clean signal and process it through a pre-amp it'll amplify your instrument. Where do you plan to use this?

Much cheaper and they'll be paying you a rebate to ship this stuff from China to your doorstep.

If it works, I suspect it should sound just about as good as any other piezo pickup. As I've mentioned previously, I recently discovered the right lead for the pickup in my old Martin D18. (I "installed" the pickup back in the early 1970s - one of the early Barcus Berry - by simply epoxying it to the bridge plate.) I plugged it into an acoustic amp through a modern pre-amp and it sounded fine. In my humble opinion a piezo is a piezo is a piezo no matter what.

That looks like a ceramic piezo. Many high priced pickups use ceramic piezo units that are likely identical or close. In more expensive pickups you are paying for the design, quality of the other components as well as the marketing and profits for the company. If you have a DIY mindset it is pretty easy to fashion your won piezo pickup to suit your instrument and mounting prefrences.

I got a piezo wafer on a brass disc, for $5, then proceeded to make a pickup out of it, myself.
