Past couple of weeks I’ve been fooling around with Bob Dylan’s “Hurricane” – trying to play the violin part on mandolin.

Hard to believe that song came out around 40 years ago. At the time I was blown away with the sidemen(The Rolling Thunder Revue), especially Scarlet Rivera on violin. Still sounds pretty good to my ear. Nonetheless, just wondering, has anybody on the forum kept up with Scarlet Rivera and whether she continues to perform?

You have good taste sir! One of my regrets is having missed Dylan on the Rolling Thunder tour (tho I did see him a year or two earlier with the Band backing up).

Soundstage's John Hammond (Sr.) Tribute, which at that time was Dylan's first TV appearance in many years. I was avidly watching that night (December 75, if memory serves).

Thanks. I had checked Wiki, FB, etc. and didn't see a whole lot of current info. So that's why I decided to check with the gang at MC to see if anyone knew more.

Wow, I'm envious. Never saw Dylan with The Band (who are one of my favorites). THAT is one of my regrets.

I remember that being promoted but for some reason didn't see it. I do wish that I had taken the time to take in the experience.

How about the ‘Hard Rain’ TV special! The mid ‘70’s was a great time for Dylan fans. After rarely seeing much ‘Dylan’ suddenly he’s everywhere and at the top of his game too! He was even on the cover of TV Guide!

It was the tour that resulted in the Before The Flood record. Here's the show I attended (amazing what you can find on the internet). The tickets were distributed by lottery, I remember getting them in the mail:

I can’t say that I’m a hard core Bob Dylan follower, but I will say that he was one of the major influences in my early musical journey. When I first heard his self-titled album back in the early sixties, I thought “I really like this guy’s music.” When The Times They Are A Changin’ came out, I was hooked. Whenever I think of Dylan, several of his releases stand out: Nashville Skyline, Blood On The Tracks, Highway 61 Revisited, Desire, Time Out Of Mind, and John Wesley Harding, just to name a handful. His work with The Band and The Rolling Thunder Revue are just outstanding. But then all of his work was, and continues to be, pretty darn excellent. And he does have a gift of surrounding himself with some pretty talented sidemen.

Over the past 30 years my Dylan forays have been somewhat hit or miss. But each time I dip my toe into his waters, it’s been enjoyable.

My big question though: how does he remember all the lyrics to his songs?
