Quote from an amazon.com reader:

This DVD assumes you to be much more than an amateur bouzouki player. Mr. McLeod is a fine player and he certainly shows you that throughout the DVD, but as an instructor he doesn't exhibit a lot of fundamental teaching skills with much in the way of slowed down detailed instruction. After reading the positive reviews of the DVD, needless to say I was disappointed as someone just starting out in playing bouzouki. Although I'm sure it's good to learn various chord voicings I was particularly bothered in the quick manner that they are shown, and that part of the DVD was beyond "learning" basic fundamentals first. The specific fingerings for the variety of alternate chord voicings are not even addressed...it's just very quickly shown as "here's a different way to play the same chord" and that's it.

In the end the DVD is labeled "Learn to Play the Irish Bouzouki". It should have been titled "Advanced/Intermediate Irish Bouzouki" (as played by Zan McLeod). With all due respect to Mr. McLeod...I think he really missed the mark on this one.

The description at Homespun dot com says "comprehensive enough to be of great value to beginners and experienced players alike." Apparently the "For beginners." in the Elderly description is Elderly's wording, and does a disservice both to beginners and to experienced players.

One DVD really can't teach anybody "how to" play any musical instrument. Most of the Homespun videos should be titled "Some useful information for people interested in playing [Irish bouzouki or whatever]" or something like that.
