I was listening to the bluegrass station on my Sirius satellite radio and heard the song "Lost As A Ball In The Tall Grass". However, I do not remember who the artist was. I tried to google it, but had no luck. Does anyone know who sang it? Thanks.

That would be Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time - you can find it on their "Songs From the Workbench" CD. #The actual song title is "Lost as a Ball in High Weeds" (assuming this is the song you are talking about - you can listen to it here to see if it the one you heard on Sirius: http://www.amazon.com/exec....s=music (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006HCU1/qid=1119656092/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/103-0385743-9752601?v=glance&s=music) )

Jimmy Martin did a song called "You'll be a lost ball (in the tall grass)" I wonder if this is the same song and Larry Cordle is just covering it?

Any how you can find Jimmy's version on the Bear Family Cd set. A worthy addition to any BG lovers collection.

Actually I believe the song on "Songs From the Workbench" is credited to "Cordle & Shell".

But everyone should still have some Jimmy Martin in their collection. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Jimmy Martin it WAS! - others, of course, have "covered" it - "often imitated - never equaledl"(IMHO of course) RIP Mr. Martin! - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Jimmy's song is "Lost Ball in the High Weeds" or just "Lost Ball" for short.

Great song.

I thought that was the case. Great song. Not too many people cover it. It does seem as though it could be mistaken as an original and not a cover.

If you ever get a chance to talk to Pete Goble, he'll tell you that "Lost Ball" was the worst song he ever wrote. I don't agree, but artists seem to be down on themselves at various times.

If he were still with us.., ask Jimmy about THAT song! - My guess both Pete and Jimmy 'took-the-money' to the bank -(or elsewhere) - Yes, I do agree with you re: writers think THEIR song(s) are not good nuff' - Charlie Louvin once told me Ira would write a song - they'd work on it, and if it didn't sound "just right" to Ira..., he'd "...just throw it in the trash can." - I suggest many of us would love to find a few of THOSE "trash-can" songs.
