Hey everyone,

As an experiment (prompted by some finger pain issues) I wanted to try out extra light flatwounds (Thomastik Mediums) on my F5 style mandolin. My instincts told me that this wouldn't go that well for some reason on this kind of mandolin. I haven't really heard of this being done too much.

Anyway I thought it turned out pretty well! Better than I expected anyway. I'd love to know what you think: https://soundcloud.com/boblongmandolin/yesterday2

I liked the sound. I also liked your style.

Big fan of the t-i's though. . .

I honestly would not have thought that an archtop mandolin and a set of light flats would sound that good! Nice playing.

Sounds great!

Great playing and interpretation of a great song.

I have TI's on my Flatiron presently.

I think they sound great! Nice sounding mandolin. What is it?

One of the things I like most about flatwound strings is a year from now they will pretty much sound the same as they do now.

I think you have a winner with that combo.

Lovely arrangement and playing. Tone is a little light on the bass response.
