This might be too specific, but I changed strings recently to a set of EXP77's from D'Addario. In tuning-up the G and D strings I noticed a sympathetic vibration in the mandolin as they reached the proper intonation - strings were "tuned to the wood." I have nothing to compare it with and the Loar site doesn't include its weight but the LM600 seems to be on the heavy side, a sturdy, solidly built instrument. I'm wondering if (a) some strings respond better to heavier instruments and (b) is "tuned to the wood" a happy accident or - generally speaking - is it taken into account when establishing the specs for these mass-produced mandolins?

And as it looks and is sounding beautiful … here's a photo:

All mandolins sound different with different strings, I would probably keep experimenting, it's possible you will find even a better match. It also depends a lot on humidity.
