The "bee3" website will give ya' more. Don't know which way yer' coming but ya' can see the Pa. Turnpike from the Hotel/conv. ctr. Not sure what Exit you would take! - (*financial disclaimer of course!) - Hope ta' see ya' - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Hi Moose,
I never miss the Philly show and I plan to go on Sat. Charles Johnson's booth at noon seems like a good time to meet. We may have to buy Charles lunch! The exit off of the turnpike is Fort Washington. This is the same exit you would take to get onto Rt.309 although you do not want to get on 309. It seems that you take a series of right turns to get back into the industrial park area where the convention center is. You could probably google map/yahoo maps/mapquest to find the best route. I live about 15 minutes away in Willow Grove so I come from the other direction. See you there,
Jim

Jim: I can't make it by noon!## - If ya' can hang around 'till 2:00(+-), I should be there, buddy. I've asked Chas. to bring that WYNN "Jesse McReynolds" "F" - Of course I have SET A LIMIT for myself!?...., yes...,of course!! - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Now come on pickers! There must be others planning to go to this most spectacular show. I wont be shopping for any mandos this time as I recently cashed out on 2 instrument purchases. I will try to sell a couple of things though it's still fun to look.
Moose, I'll try to stop by at 2:00, I should still be there. Looking forward to the Delaware jam as well.

What the heck; I'm in Warminster, just a quick hop & jump away.
Might even be a good place to develop a few new customers who need a good piano tuner.
Any official Cafe attire? (other than a mando case)

Boy, I wish I could could come. I'll be in Mt. Hope helping a friend sell Scottish and Irish stuff at the Celtic Fling. On the plus side what I'm earning will go towards an IV kit and tools! Have fun. I'm in Pottstown, this woulda been real close. BTW, Dave Grismman will be at Philly Folk Fest... Have fun and show those guitars how its picked!

Just wondering how much mandolin content is there? I will be in the general vacinity on Saturday. Also wondering if it is worth the stop in if you can only spend an hour or two?

RichieK,
Excellent!! Thanks again for letting me adopt the Daley.

Daryl,
I have been happy to see how many pieces do end up there. I would say the chances are usually very good to see or find something of interest. Charles Johnson certainly takes the lead with the largest concentration. It is like a treasure hunt and 2 hrs fly by pretty fast. I have ended up going 2 days that last couple of shows.

I believe the "entrance fee" (to look - to buy - to play or just "stroll"...?) is $10.00 - If you bring/carry(i.e. sell/trade/whatever) it's $9.00 - and yes 2 hrs. WILL fly by trying to see-it-all - yes, it is billed as a guitar show but the place is packed with dealers AND builders of guitars, mandos, saw a few fiddles(ops! violins!).., amps, etc.. Some of the prices of "vintage stuff" will CHOKE ya'!!??## - These are sellers/dealers/builders from all over the country. Looking forward to it, guys(* and I have NO financial interest(s)) - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I'll bring my Flatiron(Gibson!?)/ "Master Model"/Performer "A"(well, that's what-all it says on the inside label!?#) - I know it's a 90(xxxxxx) - Maybe Charles can figure the rest out - Excellent condition, though. Besides..., with an "instrument" in-tow ya' get $1.00 off $10.00 admission - I think!?# - See ya' there. (ps. Chas. sent me an e-mail off-line ; said "...I'll bring mandos..., YOU bring money.") hee.. hee.. - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'll be there on Sunday - got to drive in from CT for a funeral so why not make the best of a bad situation and hit the show for an hour or so Sunday morning. Does anyone know if Charles will have his table set up on Sunday also?

Moose
Jun-24-2005, 9:24am
Can't guarantee it - but unless he SELLS ALL/everything.., he WILL be there. Ya' might ask - when ya' come in - where he is located on the convention "floor" - (it's a BIG convention). All friendly folks, though. Good luck, have fun, pace yourself & TRY 'EM all !## - Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It looks like I probably won't make the show this time around... other stuff has come up. Hope to make the one in the fall.

Meanwhile, for those who have a taste for vintage instruments, Fred Oster is usually at this show also...specializes in vintage Gibsons and Martins (mandos and guitars).

enjoy all! Hope to see some of yuz next time.

I'm coming. If you know what the case of a Gibson EM-200 Florentine looks like; that's me. Something beckons, so it's for sale. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Addendum: Last call!!### - Hope we can all see(!?) each other tomorrow!?? - If ya' can't do Saturday... ; make it Sunday - I can't, but I really think you'll enjoy it. Moose,
We need "Hello my name is..." stickers, as we are sure to overwhelm Charles’s area. Now if we just were wearing caps with Mandolin Cafe embroidered on them!

I'm just back from the show - met Lee, Jim and Moose (and Charles) - held, sniffed and even played a few notes on a Loar, plinked around a bit on a Gilchrist and most exciting for me a Monteleone Mandola. Seemed to me there were a lot more manolins this time round than the previous two times I've gone - if you are thinking of going Sunday - just do it.
Great to meet the guys - I'll try to get to Jim's blugrass jam in Sellersville sometime soon.

I just couldn't make it today..but who had the Monteleone,Loar and the Gil?
I was planning to bring a Monteleone or two with me tomorrow.

Dave Musslewhite has a early Gilcrest in his booth - I think it belongs to Jeff Spenser. Adam in Larry Wexers booth has a really nice Monteleone mandola.

I did not bring a lot of mandos this time. I do have a 2005 F5G with a red spruce top, the Wynns, a 1999 Silver Angel, a 1983 Flatiron A5-2, a 1920 F4, and a 1922 A4 with me, as well as a few others.

There are a number of other mandos at the show, including a really clean 1923 A2, a 1923 A1, a clean 1919 A3, a nice Givens Legacy F5, some Ratliffs and Collings, a refin 1924 H2, and many others.

The show runs until 5 PM but most dealers start packng up around 3, especially if they have a long trip.

Now there's a statement we'd all like to be able to make!

It sounds like a good time. Wish I could have been there.

The show had a nice selection of mandolins. Lot's of Gibby A's. I tried none of them.
Honorable mention goes to the 1999 Silver Angel, a wonderful spanky tone and very playable. The 1998 Givens Legagcy was very nice too. My "take home" choice would have been the blond Collings MT2; it just seems warmer than the one I have. For the price the Collings MT was wonderful. And yes, the late 90's Gilchrist was wonderful too but I didn't see 6-figures worth of mandolin there.
I brought home a used CD player; Sonographe SD-1. And a three-pac of DR mandolin strings. Never tried 'em before.

Hey! - Great to meet & talk with all you guys - sorry I couldn't stay later! Yes, I too believe I noticed more mandos then previous shows. 'Course Charles was the "resident" authority!! - While I was there several DEALERS came to Charles for advice, opinion and general "input" on instruments being bought.., traded. And, I agree on the '99 SA! agreeably (cosmetically!) it looked like it had been "rode-hard-and-put-away-wet" - but talk about "chop" and tone-to-the-bone!!!! - Don't let the word get out, but Charles and I are in "deep negotiations" on THAT one! Again, thanks to the CAFE buddies for show'in up - tho' I think I missed a few - and thanks to Charles(Mando World Hqtrs) for causing me -now- a serious "relapse" of MAS!!### - You da' man, Charles. Regards, Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Lee

Ooops, 5-figures for the Gilchrist. Sorry.
