Hi All- I posted a short film on youtube regarding the use of Allred's D-Tube in the neck of a Mandocello I'm building. I thought it would create some lively debate!

I use that same D tube in upright basses. Do you fill the tube or leave it a hollow chamber in the neck? Their 5/8" tall carbon fiber beams fit perfect inside the tube for an I beam effect if you need it even stronger... the D tube definitely has stiffness going for it. On the larger guitar sized bodies, stiffness is important to me, but I still like to be able to adjust a truss rod to dial in the relief; I've made that mistake in the past where the neck was so strong I had to sand in relief via the frets! JB (Alred, the owner) also makes that D tube with an internal adjustable truss rod.
